About:

Marissa Zechinato is a professional vocal artist with over 16 years of onstage experience and 10 years of recording experience. Her voice is most commonly described as “angelic” by listeners. She blends intricate vocal riffs, ethereal soaring melodic lines and soulful delivery.  She aims to alchemize her healing journey into sound waves that can soothe the soul and invite listeners into parasympathetic states of relaxation, enjoyment, and groove. She is transformed continually by the medicine of the trees, land, birds, water, and wind and offers herself as a vessel for Mother’s voice to pour through.

She grew up in Maryland listening to R&B, classic rock, pop, and progressive rock with her father who is a software engineer by day and gifted guitar shredder/producer by night. She got her start singing onstage in church at 11 years old. When the lead singer of the worship team fell ill one morning, Marissa was asked to learn all the songs in 1 hour to perform for the congregation. Her only question was “can I look at the lyrics?” She immediately became one of the core members of the adult worship team.

She went on to study classically with an operatic teacher and sung choral music competitively through her teenage years until she was bitten by the jazz bug. When her dad introduced her to the work of Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday, she became determined to study jazz music. She earned a Bachelors degree in Jazz Voice with a focus in Music Technology from Howard University’s prestigious Jazz program, where she toured with vocal ensemble Afro Blue and performed onstage with artists including Kelly Clarkson, Esperanza Spalding, and Chance the Rapper. In her spare time, she taught music lessons and worked on honing her understanding of music theory and production.

In 2021 Marissa hit the road in her van, making her living busking and teaching music lessons online. She busked her way through Colorado, Arizona, Texas, and Louisiana, until she caught feelings for St. Petersburg, Florida. She continues to write, record, and produce her own songs and contribute to collaborative projects including her duo project No Radio with virtuoso drummer/producer Dimitri Fantini and Colorado-based psychedelic jam band Salamander Collective. She continues to push the bounds of her artistry as a solo performer with live looping, dripping with rich vocal harmony and live percussion.

As Marissa finds her tribe in St. Pete, she is excited to see what new opportunities and collaborations unfold. She will always be called back to the mountains, but she is happy to be enjoying this lush, tropical landing place as a home base between her wild, nomadic van adventures.
